Section D will be the first Keewaydin Outpost exploration section in more than 25 years. This summer eight eager campers will survey the Windigo Lake Region at the headwaters of the Albany, Berens, Otoskwin, Severn, and Winisk Watersheds. This area is located more than 400 kilometers north of the current Outpost cabin on Lake Kawaweogama in Wabakimi Provincial Park, near Allanwater Bridge in Northwestern Ontario.
Section D will begin it’s trip at Stirland Lake at the headwaters of the Pipestone River. The trip will follow the Pipestone River to the Paseminan River, where the section will turn upstream and cross the height of land to the North Caribou watershed. One week of downstream travel will bring Section D to the settlement of Weagamow, also known as “Round Lake.”
From there, we will paddle upstream on the Windigo river all the way to its headwaters at Hanay Lake, and cross to the Kishikas River. After a few more days of upstream travel, we will cross the height of land to the Cat River. At Cat Lake, we will stop at the Cree settlement before hopping onto the Otoskwin River. The final 10 days of the journey will be downstream on the Otoskwin River.
